Our Environmental Commitment
Responsible fire testing. Considered at every stage.
At FD-PM, we recognise that fire testing is essential to building safety, but we also understand the environmental impact associated with manufacturing test specimens, transporting materials, laboratory testing and the disposal of tested products.
Our commitment is simple: wherever possible, we aim to minimise unnecessary waste, reduce avoidable journeys and make every test programme count.
Through careful planning, experienced project management and close collaboration with manufacturers, suppliers and testing laboratories, we work to deliver testing programmes that are not only technically robust, but responsibly managed.

Getting It Right First Time
A failed or unnecessarily repeated fire test doesn’t just cost time and money. It can mean another test specimen, additional raw materials, further manufacturing, more transportation and another laboratory test.
That’s why preparation is so important.
We work closely with clients before testing begins to review specifications, coordinate test specimens, identify potential issues and ensure every element of the programme is properly considered.
Better preparation. Fewer avoidable mistakes. Less unnecessary waste.
Reducing Unnecessary Travel
We work with fire testing and specialist laboratory facilities across the UK, allowing us to consider the most appropriate facility for each individual project.
Where practical, we coordinate testing, manufacturing and logistics efficiently to help reduce unnecessary journeys and transportation.
Our nationwide laboratory relationships also enable us to consider location alongside technical capability when planning a testing programme.

Full-scale fire testing can require substantial quantities of timber, steel, glass, hardware, insulation and other construction materials.
While destructive testing is an unavoidable and necessary part of demonstrating fire performance, unnecessary material use doesn’t have to be.
Through accurate specification, careful specimen preparation and effective coordination, we aim to ensure materials are used purposefully and that avoidable remanufacture is kept to a minimum.
Where opportunities exist for materials to be reused, recycled or responsibly disposed of following testing, we encourage these options to be considered.
Responsible Use of Materials

Working Together
Environmental responsibility extends beyond FD-PM.
We believe progress comes through collaboration between manufacturers, laboratories, suppliers, installers and certification bodies.
We therefore encourage the organisations we work with to consider responsible sourcing, efficient logistics, appropriate waste management and opportunities to reduce the environmental impact of the testing process.

Our Environmental Pledge
As FD-PM continues to grow, we pledge to:
• Plan testing programmes carefully to minimise avoidable repeat testing.
• Reduce unnecessary transportation wherever reasonably practicable.
• Consider laboratory location alongside the technical requirements of each project.
• Encourage responsible sourcing and efficient use of test materials.
• Support recycling and responsible disposal of materials wherever appropriate.
• Work digitally wherever practical to reduce unnecessary paper documentation.
• Collaborate with laboratories, manufacturers and suppliers that share our commitment to responsible working practices.
• Continually review how our operations can become more efficient and environmentally considerate.

Safety Without Compromise
Sustainability must never come at the expense of fire safety.
Our environmental commitment is about making the process surrounding essential testing smarter, more efficient and less wasteful - never reducing the level of testing required to demonstrate performance.
Life safety remains paramount.
By combining technical experience, careful preparation and responsible project management, we aim to help clients achieve the evidence they need while reducing unnecessary environmental impact wherever possible.
Better Planned Testing. Less Waste. No Compromise on Safety.
